I know a lot of people use MAC brushes but are Sigma brushes just as good? Or are any other brands out there that are popular?

I have both sigma & MAC!
But for the price sigma is a better deal and you can get alot more that you could with MAC. I only buy individual brushes though instead of the brush kits because some of the brushes are kind of a waste and i would probubly use once or twice a year. Although i do adore my MAC brushes and will be getting a couple more im just not throwing all my money to own one of each.
Coastal scent or crown brushes are another great alternative too i have gotten some of my favorite crease & blending brushes from them and the duo fiber brushes are a must have.

I have quite a few Sigma brushes and love them. I even have my eye on a few more. *nods* That said, I also want one or two MAC ones (I don't have any at the moment!).

I love sigmas... I personally think they're just as durable and are the same quality... just cheaper!
Also Crownbrush.com
They're awesome! I believe they're the company that makes MAC and other companies brushes...

Crown Brush supplies to Coastal Scents. They don't, as far as I know, supply to MAC.

I have a couple of MAC brushes and love those but I recently ordered some Sigma brushes and I really love those. I am planning on buying a couple more. The price of the Sigma brushes is just the iceing on the cake.

I like both! I personally think Mac brushes are a little better quality. I have had my Sigma brushes for quite some time now...and I have had a few issues with shedding and one of the brushes also fell apart - like the glue came apart. Either way, I still think the Sigma Brushes are a fabulous deal and despite the few hiccups I have had, I'd repurchase them again without question. However, I still think my Mac brushes are better overall. I own 14 Sigma Brushes and 10 Mac Brushes. I have owned each all over a year. :)

Hmm I only have 1 sigma brush (the SS224) and 2 MAC brushes (217 and 219). The rest of my brushes are other brands. I have 2 crease brushes (essence of beauty)... an angled eye liner brush (Sonia Kashuk)... an eye shader brush (idk what brand... its old from walmart)... a blush brush, foundation brush, concealer brush, and a mineral foundation brush (all bare minerals)...and an angled blush brush (E.L.F). I also have a little pack of travel brushes I bought from HEB that I love for touch ups. I love all my brushes but between MAC and sigma I think MAC is better quality. I only have 1 brush from sigma for blending but it is too fluffy for what it is supposed to do. I want to buy more MAC brushes :) but for the price of sigma they are worth another shot! <3

I have a good amount of both brands. But I started with MAC and then discovered Sigma brushes. I can't do without my Sigmax F80! I have a crown brush set that is sitting there. There is one brush that I use from the crown brush set and that's the eyeliner brush.

i prefer sigma to mac. the price is certainly a huge reason that factors in but it's mostly because i like the quality of sigma brushes better. i also feel like they produce different brushes that other companies don't. there's also something positive to be said about the sets- mac doesn't really do those except for holidays. i like feeling like i'm getting a good product and not paying an arm and a leg for it. that's what sigma is, basically- a good value for amazing quality

I have several Sigma brushes and, since buying them a year ago, I've upgraded a few of them to MAC (E25 to 217, E55 to 239, E45 to 226). I think the 217 and 239 were well worth upgrading to. The 226 I bought when it was released with MAC Me Over; it's not as tapered as the original one from Blonde Brunette Redhead. In fact, many of the MMO 226s I've seen that others have purchased don't have much of a point or taper at all! My E45 is very pointy. I'd have to say they both work pretty much the same.
For comparison, here's a photo of my MAC 226 (MMO) vs. my Sigma E45...

i have a few mac and a few sigma and they both are great! if you are looking for price over quality go with sigma...not saying sigma is a significantly worse quality then mac in fact they are very close in quality but mac is a little bit higher quality if your looking for quality over price then go with mac because like i said mac is a lil higher quality then sigma.....

MAC are better quality and they have a wide variety of brushes, but Sigma is very good too for a more reasonable price!

I have some Sigma and Crown brushes and the Crown definitely do not compete IMHO but they do a decent job. I don't own any MAC brushes, mainly because the price kills me for 1 brush, but I have bought a few Sephora brushes (a travel eye kit and a Pro Angled Liner brush) and I love those. The kit from Sephora was reasonably priced and worth it as well.
Sonia Kashuk also has some great individual brushes but I wouldn't get their sets. Those tend to have 1 or 2 out of 5 good brushes.

I actually prefer MAC, the quality of the brushes is much, much better than Sigma's. I find that Sigma's brushes never seem to stop shedding, or I just have a bad bunch. Also they aren't very good at picking up a product. I have an angled contour brush from both MAC and Sigma, and the MAC one is just so dense and really picks up a lot of product, where the Sigma one is the complete opposite of the MAC one. I heard so many great things about Sigma brushes, and I wasn't very pleased with my purchase after I used all of the brushes.

They are both really good, but sigma is way more comfortable and affordable.

Sigma is more affordable but they aren't as durable and not handmade like MAC. Sigmas do seem to shed but they are a good alternative! I did just order some real techniques and I want to see how those are

My Sigma brushes do not shed at all and are just as good if not better than MAC. honest! xo

I've not bought any Sigma brushes or a few reasons, though the new Sigmax sets do look interesting. I think Sigma is a relatively affordable alternative, though the hit or miss quality strikes me as bizarre.
As far as quality, when someone has had their Sigma brushes for 10+ years of heavy use.. then I'll listen to claims of durability and quality on par with MAC.

I forgot to mention in my previous post that, apparently, some of MAC's brushes (the ones made in Japan) are done by Hakuhodo. (Other MAC brushes are made in France.)

I've honestly never tried MAC brushes but thats because i'm a broke college student and they're seriously pricey over here in Ireland. However i've got a decent collection of Sigma brushes now and for the price I paid for them, i'm delighted with the quality. I haven't had much of a problem with shedding and their new Sigmax ones are incredible! I swear, their F80 flat-topped kabuki does wonders when I use it to buff in my foundation. I think they're definitely worth the money you pay for them if, like me, you can't afford the MAC alternatives =]
