I will be in a upcoming beauty pageant here in Minnesota; it will be a Hmong pageant.
I need to prep my face so that I can pack on a good amount of make-up so I look good on and off stage.
Do you gals have any suggestions for what products will work best? And any make-up looks that will look good?
Please let me know, I'm open to anything. (Almost anything...)
THANKS! =]

Teen or miss? Different requirements at each.
Smokey eyes do better under stage lights. Darker makeup (like one shade darker) helps since stage lights wash out the skin but be careful in applying makeup you want to go heavy handed but not too heavy or you look like a clown in pictures but not heavy enough and you can look washed out.

I would suggest a red/ orange lip with matte skin and neutral eyes but lots of lashes =)

I was in a beauty pageant when I was 16 and we had to do dark lips and dark eyes. The reason was because, although it looks pretty crazy in person, when you're on stage and have all those lights on you, you can barely make out anybody's features. Lots of contouring goes on to bring out the curves and angles in your face, but usually, pageant makup artists will do everything for you so you won't have to worry about a thing. :)

Depends, Bonnie, on the pageant. Not all pageants have makeup artists on hand to do the makeup backstage. My daughter competed at the teen level in the Miss America's Outstanding Teen local level and they had to get their makeup done on their own. In the teen level at state there are no MUAs as far as I know, this will be her first (and last) time at state. Now in the Miss WA Teen USA level (different pageant, no local preliminaries) they do have a MUA on hand.
I would suggest, if Mai doesn't know yet, to find out if there is a MUA on hand. If not, like I said before you need to go darker with your makeup but be careful in what you use otherwise you can look like a clown. My daughter's first pageant she had her makeup done professionally at the salon that did her hair and she looked HORRIBLE. The following year she had it done at MAC and it was nice but not dark enough for stage. This year I did her makeup and she looked fantastic - not washed out and not like a hooker.
Oh and don't forget the fake lashes. Again be careful in what kind because the heavy, thick, full ones may not look good on stage.
