Hey everyone, I need some opinions! On myself I like the way it looks to have eyeshadow on only my eyelid, and if I blend all the way to the browbone it looks overdone and weird. However, it seems like a lot of advanced makeup users think it's juvenile, or just bad looking to wear eyeshadow only on your lid.
I think that maybe I don't have enough eyelid to pull it off, if that's possible. :/

Not all makeup rules apply to everyone's faces... I've seen here on Beautylish many disagree whether there is a "right" or "wrong" way to put on makeup, and I say it's all in the eye of the beholder. What works for others may not work for you. I've had many friends ask me to do their makeup the way I do it on myself, and it just doesn't translate that way all the time.
If you like the blended look, you certainly do NOT have to go all the way up to the brow bone at all! Not everyone has a deep-set crease, and not everyone desires to have that look either. I have a friend that blends solid black liner to where her crease starts, but does not blend and has it with crisp edges that wings out into a cat-eye. She has the challenge of no lid space and hooded eyes too. Although that look is harsh on me, she pulls it off BEAUTIFULLY - even on the daily. [She's in the beauty industry, so she can def. do more bolder looks and get away with it! Lucky girl...]
To each their own! =D

I don't think its juvenile either. I do it all the time, for just a quick pop of color with winged liner. I think it looks cute. Granted I'm only 19, but I think its ok for any age.

@Soma-yeah, I agree! It irritates me when people say they "hate" when people do one thing or another with makeup, like everyone is supposed to do it the same way. I mean, some things are obvious, but mostly its personal preference.
@Jasmine-Thats a really pretty look! And my eyes are shaped alot like yours.
@Mary- I'm 19 too! I've always thought it looked cute, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing some huge no no. I didn't want people looking at my eye looks on my blog and thinking "what the heck is wrong with this girl?" haha.

I always highlight under my brow bone, but I don't like to wear shadow from my lashline to my brow personally. I think it depends on your face and your taste. Do what you like! Makeup is self-expression after all ;)

"Hate" is such a strong word... yet I feel many people use it without remembering exactly what it means. Sometimes, I think it's just a shortcut for people to pass up things without really studying it or looking at it.
If I ever had to come to the point where I might "hate" something or someone - I have a much more colorful vocabulary to convey that. There's even more than one way to say you "hate" something... like "despise" or "loathe". If even the word itself has more than one way to convey it, why can't they realize a makeup look can be translated in different ways as well?
There's ALWAYS more than one way to do things. I'm just interested in which way will get me there fastest, easiest and most successfully. =D

I read somewhere that you're not supposed to use all 4 shades that come in a eyeshadow quad. So everyone has their own "rules"

I COMPLETELY agree with you, Soma, couldn't have put it better myself. I think preferred makeup looks are all about facial features and general opinion. :)
I usually take my eyeshadow and blend out to just above my crease, but I have a lot of space to work with.
