when applying foundation on a dry skin use a dam sponge instead of a foundation brush, a brush will cause micro exfoliation, lifting dead skin, making your foundation look cakey!

A wet sponge will also give a very sheer coverage and is this what the client would be looking for? Adding water depleats the skin of moisture which also seems a bit counter productive. A person with dry skin should exfoliate (period), then there would be no issue of dead skin caking up. I can't stress enough that the best foundation application should start with the best skin. A person with dry skin should be using a creamy cleaser to wash their face, they should be using a toning lotion in place of an astringent and they should be using a very emollient mositurizer preferably one with hyaluronic acid which is a water binder holding 1000x's its weight in water. After they achieve the perfect canvas they should use a primer to fill in the lines and pore and then a satin foundation to give the skin a healthy glow...using it with a foundation brush will give them that professional streak-free coverage...without wasting their foundation.

I do agree with you the best foundation application does start with good skin, however perfect skin can't be achieved in a day. By working with many clients with such flaky and dry skin, this has become my preferred method to counter the problem. Please note that I do not use water to wet my sponge, I use MAC fix plus spray to dampen my sponge and I build up on the coverage. In that way little dry bits of skin wont lift and the foundatin looks flawless!. Everyone has their own method :) hugs and kisses xx
