I feel like my skin is getting darker with age! I've had a couple ppl ask me if I've been somewhere sunny or if I'm using darker makeup. Has anyone heard of skin darkening with age? It's starting to frustrate me. I like my skin tone and don't want it to change.

I notice mine getting darker. I'm not sure why but maybe it has something to do with years of sun exposure? I my myself don't mind it though because my skin used to be too pale.

Maybe it has to do with the accumulated effccts of sun exposure? Try wearing sunscreen every day, even on the days you'd probably just be out for a total of a couple hours or so. I read somewhere that unprotected, the skin starts to take sun damage after the firsf 10 minutes of sun exposure. If the sunscreen thing doesn't work, you can gradually lighten your skin by rubbing lemon juice on it, I've heard. Haven't tried it, though. All else fails, use a slightly lighter foundation and bronzer for a lighter golden look.

The level of melanin (substance in our body that causes skin to darken) changes as we age due to many factors. Sun exposure, pollution, and aging in general are the primary factors. Everyone is differently affected, though. Some people develop "age spots" while others may experience overall face, arms, etc. darkening. There are OTC lightening treatments, though!! I would definitely look for a sunscreen that offers UVA protection as well as SPF protection to help, as well :))

Oh, I should've mentioned this: Coconut Oil is a proven skin lightener. It takes time and consistency, but if used daily (applied at bedtime and kept on until morning) you should see results in a few weeks. I'm a HUGE fan of coconut oil for all sorts of things! My mom has been using coconut oil as a night cream for over 20 years and her skin looks like a 20 year olds (she's 67!) it is truly a miracle product :))

Ooh, thanks for the tip Ashley H! I already love coconut oil but I didn't know it could be used for this too.
