The problem with Wen is that it contains silicones, which coat the hair shaft and leave a residue. And since Wen doesn't contain sulfates, that residue is not adequately washed away and it is left to build up over time on your hair. Many brand-name drugstore shampoos contain sulfates which act as a cleansing detergent, but they are usually harsh (especially on dry hair), and it strips hair of its natural moisture. And in order to compensate for the lack of moisture, many brands add silicones to their conditioners, thus creating a sulfate-silicone cycle of stripping your hair's moisture with shampoo and then adding silicones which leave residue, that can in turn only be adequately removed by sulfate shampoos.
So if you want to go sulfate-free, you really should go silicone-free as well, to avoid that build-up on your hair that only harsher sulfate shampoos will remove. One brand I highly recommend is Nature's Gate, they have sulfate-free/silicone-free shampoos and conditioners for all hair types, but there are many other brands to choose from as well. Here's a list of silicone-free conditioners --> http://healthycurls.net/product-lists/silicone-free-conditioners/
