Dab a little bit on the top of your hand and pick it that way. Or visit a makeup artist at the mall they give out free consultations.

Try to ask for samples. even take your little empty pot with you to get some sample in it. Ask the SAs nicely. Try the sample in different lights, applied with different tools a few times. See Lisa Eldridge's videos on fdn.

A lot of people use more than 1 color foundation. You might have to mix 2 different shades to get the right color for you.

Never test foundation on your hand. You will not receive an accurate reading. Its best to swatch along your jawline...that way you get a true picture of which one is the best color match after blending it in.
