Can't you just clean them with a high concentration of alcohol? I thought it cleans and sanitizes at the same time but I'm no pro: http://youtu.be/yHWzoZGrceQ.

I just use my shampoo! Just find I have to do it a couple times until colour stops coming off in the water (blush/powder brushes mostly).

Baby shampoo or dish soap works. E.l.f. also has a brush shampoo for $3 at Target which works really well.

Yes you can use just the soap. If you have a lot of build up in the brush, you can swirl it around in some Olive Oil to break it down then wash it with the soap.

I use dawn dish soap and olive oil to clean my brushes once a week and the mac brush cleanser daily.

Use antibacterial soap and a dot of olive oil. Put these in the palm of your hand and with your brush, brush the ingredients back and forth till you work up a rich later. You'll be shocked by what you see afterwards.
Rinse the brush in water. Take your thumb and index finger and squeeze the excess water from root to tip. Let it air dry,
