Yeah, I'm having similar issues. No matter of I use high end, drug store, hold it on for a while then wipe, wash a bunch after using the remover, I still wake up with black under my lower lashes. What the Heck!

I just use a cotton ball and baby oil and it works like a charm! I've never had any problems using it. so I help that helps! :)

Coconut oil, olive oil, baby oil, lotion! Lol the oils work best.
