I want to get a relaxer but don't know if they damage your hair badly or how to maintain it or anything? And are there any other ways to get straight hair without damaging it?

It is very damaging if not done correctly. Go to a licensed beautician to get it done. My best advice is to get a mild relaxer or child relaxer. Although still damaging, it doesn't do as much harm as a regular/super perm.
