Try tieing your hair in a pony tail, and then twirl the hair around the hair tie. secure with another hair tie

I can't do it either because my hair is too thick and sits quite straight so it ends up looking very static and won't hold. I use a doughnut bun and that works perfectly try that

I just make a big loop and pin it in place to make it look like a donut. I get stray hairs that stick up so it looks messy and cute.

I constantly have missing socks from the wash so I use the pairless ones and they work great!

I find that if you buy the ones from the shops that are made from plastic not foam they will work better because then you can secure your hair through the actual doughnut. Step one tie hair in pony tail where you want your bun to sit. Step 2 loop all hair through the middle of the bun. Step 3 bend down slightly and splay hair flat and evenly around doughnut. Step 4 piece by piece secure hair under the doughnut catching a tiny bit of the doughnut when securing, also pressing down in the entire bun will ensure it is firmly in place and neat. Step 5 once you have secured all pieces if you have excess wrap it around and secure it is imperative you press down during this stage so you don't see a loop of hair around the bun ( you will only need this step if you have very long or thick hair. Step 6 for extra security you could tie a hair tie around the bun ( use a very large ir stretchy hair tie or one with loops on the end so you can wind it round ( this step is optional as the pins should suffice depends how pedantic you are). Step 7 spray hairspray and then flatten the static or flyways done then wela! Your done. I'm a flight attendant au I do this everyday for work x

Make sure the pins are not booby pins but rather hairdressing pins so they look like bobby pins but open in the middle. Judge the length you need depending on the size bun you have chosen.
