Hi Emily,
Are you using a brush cleaner or just soap? Most makeup brush cleaners have a built in conditioner which helps natural hair fibers from becoming dry or brittle. Sometimes synthetic brushes just need to be replaced after a year or so of use (daily), however. Soap alone will dry out your brushes and also cause the glue in the ferrule (the part that holds the handle and the brush hairs together) to dissolve over time which can ruin a brush's life. I recommend using the Parian Spirit cleaning System: http://www.beautylish.com/s/parian-spirit-brush-cleaning-system or if you still want to shampoo your brushes without damaging them you can also use a gentle baby shampoo.
I hope that helps!
Best,
Alicia

I just put mine in vinegar, warm water, and a squirt of dish soap. Swash them around for a bit and leave them for about 30mins, swash around some more, then lay out on paper towels to dry overnight. They come out so soft and clean!!
