Sorry for this random question!
I knew I shouldn't get a pedicure, but I did it anyway, and just as I expected...I got an ingrown toenail :( I'm going to the Podiatrist on Wednesday, but between now and then I still have dance rehearsal.
My whole toenail is painful, so I know there's no way that I'm going to be able to get up on pointe. My mom keeps saying that if I just cut my toenail, it won't be painful in my demi-pointe shoes. Is she right? I'm really reluctant about this...what should I do?
Thanks :)

I'm not a dancer so I can't help you too much! However I know that if you cut the toenail... When it grows back it will grow back more! However if your having it looked at on Wednesday then, I think it will probably fine as they can sort it!:) hope it goes well! If your a little apprehensive just explain it to your dance teacher or whatever! I'm sure they'll understand! Good luck x

I got an ingrown toenail, and I had to go to the emerg because the swelling and pain was unbearable! Turns out it had gotten infected and the had to take my toenail right off! This happened in August and it still has yet to fully grow back! Get that checked out as it can get worse!

I know how you feel.. I don't do pointe but I still dance.. I use to get ingrown nails all the time and it hurts so bad!! What I did to help the pain and the infection was soak my toes in hot salt water... That will help the infection... So soak your toe in hot salt water till the water isn't hot anymore... Do that a couple times... Hope I helped.

I still have this problem becaus I dance too, I do ballet, so I now how you feel, and I know that most of the time they don't care and you just got to bite trough the pain and dance,
try to lift your toe nail and put some bodylotion under it. then try to cut the corner of the nail and just like kaitlin said, a 'saltbath' :)

Cut a triangle into the free edge of the toe... It concentrates the growth to the centre of the nail instead of to the sides of the nail. Patience is needed but worth it in the long run :)

Thanks for all of the help! I did most of my class in my demi pointe shoes, and soaked it in a saltbath later to relieve the pain :)
