If they are not see through at ALL and cover everything, then yes.

No they should not be substituted as pants. Wear them under skirts or long shirts that cover your butt but DO NOT wear them with a short shirt that is DISGUSTING! (My opinion)

Well I guess if they are thick enough to look good but if you have the wrong butt to stick out then no. Lol I guess it's different in some situation a

I think it depends. Some leggings are thinner and very much like tights. In that case, it's usually better to cover your butt. There are some though that are quite thick and definitely do not show every contour of your butt. They're not "jeans" because they're not denim/don't have a button and fly, but they're definitely thick enough to wear as pants.

Sometimes they're very thick and called leggings because they stretch. Some jeans stretch too!
If you're unsure, think to yourself, how would my mother / grandmother react if she saw me in these? Haha!

Everyone has their own opinion so let's try not to bash others (: I personally think leggings are not pants because they're tight and sometimes sheer. I just find it a bit inappropriate when the material is kind of 'tucked into' your butt crack, which makes it very uncomfortable for the people walking behind you. I usually wear leggings with a hoodie, sweatshirt, cardigan, large t-shirt and in yoga.

I see leggings as tights. They are nothing like skinny jeans! For workout or around the house, fine. But not for an actual outfit choice.
It makes me cringe so bad when I see peoples underwear through them. I've had to stop my sister leaving the house plenty of times with a short top and leggings and show her how rediculous she looked!

I love leggings! I wear them all the time. And when I do wear a pair of jeans I wear the same one all the time even tho I have 50 pairs of jeans. But yes leggings are pants for me <3.

I hardly ever wear jeans lol...For me they are a cheaper way to get cute outfits. I just like how comfortable they are also. Most of my leggings have prints on them! I have seen girls wear them though where you can see right through them, at my old job we had to wear leggings as part of our uniform! I would say just try them on lol its really not that complicated. You just have to have the right leggings for one, have the right body type , and be able to style them correctly.

There are pants that are made mostly of legging material. Jeggings. But normal leggings alone would be considered capris.

Leggings are not pants... But I think each legging should personally be taken into consideration when pairing them with the appropriate clothing
I personally only buy leggings that are very thick and NOT the thin, tight-like material. The thicker ones made of quality fabrics that I only buy, I think are fine to wear with a longer shirt or tunic. The thin and super tight leggings should never be worn out of the house but they can be fine as pajamas or under a longer dress. I do think some leggings such as leather or denim/jeggings can be worn with a regular shirt if they fit a person properly.

It sounds like a lot of girls are wearing/see others wearing the really cheap, poor quality leggings that are clingy and see through =(

Pants are pants and leggings are leggings. But I'm not opposed to wearing leggings as pants as long as they're the thick ones (like Natalie was talking about) and you wear a long enough shirt, tunic, or dress, etc. to cover your crotch and butt. I rarely wear jeans anymore, I just own a ton of opaque black leggings.

I use them as pants.

I consider them leggings. My friend wears the same pair everyday an they are really stretched and ugly. Lol so pants don't stretch like leggings do.

I think they're pants as long as they're thick enough to not be see through & you don't have a cameltoe then there's nothing wrong with it, point blank.

I don't understand how people say "they are pants, if you look good in them". -.-? people have different opinions about how they look on themselves, and all I see is mainly girls talking about how some girls don't have the butt for them. I have a tiny ass and I personally love how it looks in leggings. I like to cover my butt sometimes depending on the occasion, but please stop bashing on all these thin girls that can't help that they don't have a butt or that they're thin. thats like calling a thick girl fat, allthough people never dare to say anything about them -.-
