Use tape to make solid lines , sometimes I paint mine , let them dry, put tape over half the nail and paint the other half another colour :)

I like to do striped nails, just so I can use all my coloura ha.. I find that using just a normal nail brush that comes with the bottle is fine, just paint a thin line trying to make it as straight as possible but if it goes wonky just use a nail on your other hand to slide it along and remove excess varnish. helps if you have long nails though :) also, doing leopard print is actually really simple! just paint a light coloured base coat, wait for it to dry then do a couple of spaced out blobs, keeping the varnish quite thin as you don't want lumpy goey bits! then after that has dried just edge off each spot with the brush tilted.. go all around some dots and only 3rd of the way around others. it dosnt matter if it gets too messy as leopards don't have perfect spots!

Make sure the outer bit of the spot is darker than the inner.. use 3 different colours/shades

Polka dots are easy and cute! You can also arrange them so they make a flower and do multi color and different sizes. They're very versatile and SO EASY. If you don't have a dotting tool the next best thing is to use a tooth pick. Use the pointy end for your smallest dots and to make bigger ones, cut the tooth pick in half and take your toughest file and file the end flat and smooth around the edges also. You can taper it by continuing to file the circle around to get a smaller circle to get the size of dot you want or to get a whole bunch a sizes. Practice on paper before your nails to get the hang of it and watch Robin Moses videos. She does one, I think its called polka dots and stripes or something like that where you can learn some really good technique!
