It really depends on your face shape :)
If it's something you really want go for it! Maybe get longer swept bangs the first time and if you like the look and if you are willing to keep up with maintaining it then get them shorter or where you're happy with them!

I'm not exactly sure what my face shape is, but I've had side swept bangs twice before. The thing that is making me second guess the idea is because I'm still growing out my old bangs. I don't want to go back to the drawing board again. When I put my hair in a ponytail or braids, the shorter layers of my previous bangs fall out, and it doesn't look that good. With the side bangs it would look a lot better and I always like to style them too. There are lots of pros and cons, but I want to see which one has the most pros.

Since you dont know exactly what your face shape is, maybe if you can determine whether you have a rounder face or not, that might help. Because people with rounder or even oval-like faces look super good with side bangs. And you mentioned you like to style them too, well if you enjoy doing that then I think side bangs would be a great thing to go with. :)

My face is more round than not, but when I had them before I thought they looked pretty good. I don't want to go to the salon to get it done but I can't find a good tutorial on how to cut them from scratch.

Go for it! Side swept bangs are flattering for anyone!! Get them cut in such a shape that will allow you to wear them to either side and have them be long enough to be able to be tucked behind your ear :)

Hmm, well Melanie, i would search "How to cut a fringe" and maybe that could help... a fringe is the same thing as side bangs. So maybe with some luck you could find a video on that. Or if you dont want to cut your hair right away, in a month or so I will be doing a video on how to get side bangs. (even though you sound like you want your hair cut fast.) Here are some youtube video links, since beautylish's videos are hard to load on my computer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=klw_-GFrNB8&feature=endscreen

I reconmend watching the second one first :)

Im a hair stylist and when i cut side swept bangs i cut them on the opposite side from where its gonna lay and cut them diagonally so when you put them in place it should be perfectly aligned. With this method its always safer to start longer cus you can always go shorter. To take away the bluntness use a technoque called point cutting where you cut into the perimeter of the hair to create a somewhay wispier effect. Im sure you can google or youtube it. Good luck. :)

Swept bangs suit everybody. get them if you haven't done 'em before
The real dilemma is getting those straight-across-Japonais bangs!

Thank you so much for the videos Kelly!! I'm pretty sure I'll get the side swept bangs, but I don't want to screw them up! And if I got the side swept bangs, I won't know when to get them!
