Adding some dye in the conditioner might help. Also don't wash your hair too often, use dry shampoo. For the red, maybe you can bleach your hair once (a little dark blonde) than use manic panic red, but it's hard to maintain the color. I have red hair now and I bleached it to a golden yellowish blonde, you can see how my red turn out in my videos (http://YouTube.com/MichelleAXOXO). I only use manic panic and revlon hair dyes but there are better ones like special effects which I can't get my hands on still. No idea why but revlon's red feels kinda harsh on my hair while my hair feels smooth after washing out the manic panic's vampire red dye.
This answer is kinda all over the place but I hope this helps.
