I'm a DIY hair kinda girl. & I've been coloring my hair out of a box since I was about 16. Right now my hair is ombre, very light blonde on the bottom and sort of a medium dark blonde on top. I want to go very light blonde all over though, so I bought the John Frieda Precision Foam Hair Color in Extra Light Beige Blonde. My only concern is I don't want it to be pretty on the bottom and orangey at the top because of my medium dark blonde. Anyone have any suggestions for avoiding the orange?

Get your hair wet in the shower and let it sit in your hair for a few minutes

Don't use a box color. They're very bad for your hair!! Go to Sally's and buy ions Argan oil lightener with a 40 developer. Then buy a neutral protein filler to put on damp hair 20 mins before you put on the bleach & leave it on during the bleaching process too + repeat when you apply toner too. Key to not having orange hair is a toner. To eliminate orange you need a blue or purple based toner... I would highly recommend you get wella's toner in t18 lightest ash blonde (previously white lady) and use a 40 developer with it and leave it on for no longer than 15-20 mins depending on how light your hair is. Honestly though... With the color you want you will probably have to bleach twice- which is okay! Because this bleach (and the fact that you will be using protein too will help so much) has barely any damage. You do not use heat with this bleach either & it won't dry on your hair (like powder ones will get crunchy) so that's another reason it won't damage your hair , leave this on no longer than an hour 1/2 each time, it also comes with 2 bleachings in it too so you won't have to buy another one- just make sure you get a biggest bottle of the 40 developer.. Cause you will need to use it 3 times (bleach, bleach, and tone) But anyways the whole reason I'm saying to bleach it twice is because it won't be orange if its the color you're looking for.. Maybe yellow- but you're going to leave the bleach on until your hair looks like a really light pale yellow. I can show you pictures of each step If you want to know what it will look like because this is what I do to my hair and I will show you my hair color too. Also the toner will be dark purple so don't freak if some of the lightest white pieces are purple.. They wash out after 2-3 washes... But it will stain your skin & hands purple so be careful! :-) the purple shampoo + conditioner is a great idea for after care but they can be drying so make sure you get a deep conditioning masque to use as your conditioner now (hair chemist's macadamia oil hair masque @ Sally's $11) is amazing & I use that and organic coconut oil to heal my hair back in shape after all these processes... Thought it won't be in bad shape.. I promise. And lastly... Because you have ombré hair right now it's going to be tricky the first bleaching.. You need to put the bleach on just the darkest parts first & let it develop to match the bottom, then pull or brush it thru& apply more to the bottom. The reason I told you to get the neutral protein filler too will help make the bleach pull all of your hair evenly root to tip, meaning it will help to make it all evenly the light blonde you're wanting! Here's my hair color, and let me know if you want pictures of what your hair will look like at each step of bleaching & toning. I hope this helps you! Blonde hair is very tricky to get right! It's taken me years to get my hair the color I wanted it to be! Xoxo.

She is exactly right but be careful with a 40 and test it on your hair because it can make your hair snap remember that everyones hair is different with hair color what works for her hair might not for yours but do go to sally and stop useing boxed dye it is professional hair dye just off brand an amazing hair color brand is age beauteiful its not just for for grey or older peoples hair I have used argon oil brand hair dye and it didnt work in my hair but I would try their bleach and with a 30 vol a d use wellas t3 hair toner (I'm not 100percent its called t3 but I'm almost positive) I love age beauteiful cream lightner though but go to sallys their amazing and get a sallys card it saved you a lot.

Jacob, you're right in some ways.. But to get platinum blonde (and looking at her hair) it's dark enough she will HAVE to use a 40! In a salon they will even use 50 on a client. The developer means how many levels of a lift do you need 10 deposits color, 20 is lifting 2 levels, 30 is 3, 40, is 4+ and used for blondes or to pre-lighten. Yes, you should do a strand test but it will be very hard and rather silly to do a strand test when this will probably be a 3 process deal- not to mention she will be using a protein filler to add protein to her hair that the bleach would normally strip out..and this is a very good quality oil based bleach that won't dry on hair- which is where you get the snapping & breakage... Because its the time you leave it on, not the developer. That's why I said do a complete second bleaching if the first one doesn't lighten it enough. And make sure to use the protein filler and condition in between! If you want Taylor you can do a porosity test on your hair to see what condition and what level porosity your hair has before bleaching.. But my hair was chemically cut by a professional and I do my own hair now (but I do have training/education in hair) and still bleached my hair afterwards and now it's in better condition than ever before. Also- box hair dye is not professional color- and by this I do not mean the boxes of color at Sally's- I mean the color you can buy at the grocery store.. They're very bad for your hair! A lot of them have plastic & other nasty chemicals in them which bonds to your hair , and many have very high developers (and they don't tell you how to properly apply the color either so the majority of the time you're over-processing your hair to all hell) and is extremely hard to remove, and damages your hair so much. Plus box hair dye is essentially one size fits all pants (bc they're made for every hair type) and you wouldn't expect everyone to fit into a one size all pants... Or probably even buy them yourself.. Right? So don't do that to your hair!! Not to mention, the companies are always changing the colors and you can buy the same color you always do and have it be a complete different formula and not come out right but it's the same stuff you've always bought... Okay I'm done! I just hate hate hate box hair dye & anyone who's educated in hair color, knows what I mean! It's the lowest of the low in hair color & care! + there isn't a t3 toner in wella. They start at t18 and go up but down/dark in color. She needs t18 because its a purple based toner to eliminate the yellow/orange you will get from bleaching.

Taylor, I also forgot to add I always get a trim after I bleach my hair, it will stop the split ends from breaking further up the shaft, make your hair look better and fresh, plus a trim won't hurt any style you have. Please make sure you use a 40 developer with the toner otherwise it won't work- trust me pleaseeee! Also get ions sensitive scalp developer, it's really gentle- I like it better than wella's or the Sally's brand. And lastly, I'm not sure if I told you this or not but with the protein filler you will need to pick up a spray bottle (they're cheap only a few $$ at Sally's- I have the one with black scissors on it- it has different settings for the stream- misting is best in this situation) to apply the protein, it's a water consistency & is impossible to spread around on your hair otherwise! Good luck! And post pictures when you're done!! :)

The picture below is all of the wella toner shades!
