The knock offs work fairly well. They just aren't as easy to use &bouncy as the actual beauty blender. I still use mine when my beauty blender is dirty!

Sponges cause more breakouts and you will also find that you'll end up going through your foundation quicker verses using brushes which is better to use. Just FYI but any sponge should work if you choose to stick with them.
