Good morning ladies. I decided to dye my hair red but I don't know how to get that color. I've never dyed it so my question is..how many sessions is it going to take to get the color I want?

Go to a professional. They may have to lighten your hair a few times before depositing the color. May take 3 times

Also, red is the hardest color to maintain.. You'll have to go to the salon every four to six weeks to maintain this color.

Becca, that color of red isn't hard to maintain, it is dark enough. I have that color and haven't touched up in two months.

I actually went back to red a while ago. I have dyed my hair from all three sources-boxed dye from the drugstore, professional grade from Sally Beauty Supply and a pro! If for some reason, you can't afford to go to a salon, I would stick with a reputable brand from Sally's like ION (my personal fave) or Wella! Since you have naturally dark hair, (VIRGIN) you can get away with one step. The Intense red colors really last a long time! You can also ask the SA's questions since they know their stuff. Also, Loreal has HI-LIFT reds, if you don't want to bleach your hair.

But I went to a salon recently and the results were well worth it.

I actually am a licensed professional and I know that in order to keep red vibrant you need to keep freshening it up. unless you want roots of course

Jeana V really? I think I'm still going to a professional because I know NOTHING about hair coloring lol. I don't want to risk it. Do you have any pics of your red hair?
& Becca L yes my friend has red hair and she has to keep up with it every month or around there.

If your hair is virgin then when your hair gets bleached it should turn fairly quickly. The first time I dyed my hair I died it bright red and only went to the salon once to dye it so it should be pretty easy and it's a dark red so you don't have anything to worry about. Just make sure you have a professional colorist trust me I learned the hard way that all hair dressers do not know how to do everything even if they say they do lol

Jasmine I'm so excited you said that because I don't patience at all lol I want it now!! Did you like your hair red?

Omg I loved it!! If I could have a crazy color for my job I would still have it lol but we have to be subtle at my job so nothing crazy or a fad as they say...I had some black mixed in as well which is my natural color. I think you'll love it once you do it

You don't have any pics? I'm excited I know I'm going to love it as well!! lol I can't have crazy colors at work either except red for reason they're ok with that!

My hair was this until I recently darkened it. I used loreal hi color hi lights in red mixed with 30 volume because my hair was almost black before. But this picture was the 4th time I dyed it. It got brighter and redder everytime. I dyed it once a month.

Jennifer I love that color!! Did it harm your hair a whole lot? or what would you do for it to be healthy?
