Sometimes is best to just build your own with the products you love to use and know exactly how they work best. My kit includes MAC, NYX, E.L.F, and palettes I purchased at the hair shows.

Make sure to research your products. You want to be able to use most of your products on many different people. Also, trying before you buy is great when you're just starting out. I get a Birchbox subscription so I get to try new stuff every month before I decide whether or not to include it in my kit. There is also a great site that approved a whole bunch of products for and by makeup artists. It hasn't failed me yet. http://inmykit.com/

Hey Jessica. I work for Mirabella Cosmetics and we make a great Pro Box that could possibly be a good place to start. I use their makeup in my personal business as well and it's great for weddings, proms, daily wear, you name it! Here's the link: http://www.mirabellabeauty.com/kits/pro-box.html Also, If you haven't checkout out Beauty Box 5, I recommend taking a look...it's similar to Birchbox and might be another option for you. www.beautybox5.com Have a great time building your kit!

Inglot eyeshadows r a must. U must buy according to your potential clientele. Going to a show is particularly helpful. For example IMATS

Beatfacehoney has a good youtube clip about what you should have in your kit. You can also look up what others have in their makeup kit to get a good idea of what you need to start.

I agree with Jessica C. about building your own kit. Beside having fun makeup...You def want to start having light & dark foundations & concealers (getting a pro palette can be useful and economical. Once you have the base you can start experimenting with different brands for colors etc...and to save lots of room in your makeup kit, def palettes all the way:)

Go to inmykit.com. The site is run by Kevin J Bennett and gives great insight on some of the best professional cosmetics products. Also don't hesitate to find all the pro discounts you can. Check out frendsbeautysupply.com, and camerareadycosmetics.com for starters

^NYX has some really good one and the price is good how much were you willing to invest right now and are you building a kit or wont to buy one?

Jul 19, 2012

Jessica A.

@ Amanda B Well I am willing to invest at least 400 I want to build it with my own products things that I will use and be useful, just because most kits just bought have things you don't really need or use sometimes so I rather just build my own you know? :))

Oh... Yes I know. My first kit was all drug store makeup. Its quite funny now looking back bc at one time my kit was all trial and error stuff. 400 starting from scratch or do you already have some things? What kind of makeup will you be doing this this keep weddings, print, ect?

In general you should have about
10-15 shades of foundations
15-20 eyeshadows
6 blushs
6 lipgloss
3-6 bronzers
2 mascaras
3 gel liners
eye lash glue
tweezers
4 eyebrow pencils
4 lip pencils
4-6 face powders
2 mixing palettes
2 spatulas
91 proof alcohol
lipwands, mascara wands sponges
translucent powder
studio fix2
lotion
witch hazel
spray bottle w water
face wipes
hair clips
nail polish remove
emery boards
paper towels
4-8 concealers
lashes
eye shadow primer
makeup brushes
pencil sharpners
business cards
I know this list is huge, but remember it takes time to build a kit.
Some items you can but in bulk deals while others you will splurge on.
You will never have enough eyeshadows, while foundations can be mixed together.
Also with foundations if you buy Mac Studio tech you can dilute for a sheer coverage by mix with lotion.
If anyone else has any tips or even websites please feel free to add to list...

dont forget the lipsticks! BH Cosmetics sells a palette of 66 colors for about 11 dollars.
