I read somewhere for neatness place a square of toilet tissue as the 'line' and brush against that -- if that's part of the problem then that's really helpful :) x

Try using a crayon-y type of eye liner or use the eyeshadow with the colour you want to smoke out ( I prefer using an angle brush afterward to blend and bring the smoke upward). Then just wipe the excess colour to make it look cleaner :D
I hope that it helps!
Cheers

Haha alright! I'm going to explain to you using a black smokey eye but you can incorporate this with any color. A smokey eye is essentially the transition from dark to light. This is the way I find easiest
1. Apply a black kohl liner on the lash line
2. Use a black shadow to blend it out
3. With a grey or coffee brown blend the black out
Anything else would be overkill really but you can keep going lighter and lighter!
I always like to smudge some black and brown along my lower lash line aswell so it's not too top heavy!
