I've used it before but I think it was too strong for my skin and I got a really bad reaction.

My sisters friend had cystic acne and she has been using tretinoin and it has helped her skin greatly! I have not personally used it. :)

Trentinoin is often deemed excellent for acne and has been found to be highly effective. Retinol based products such as this increase sensitivity to sunlight and increase dryness. Drink loads of water, keep your skin well moisturized with something paraben free (as to avoid clogged pores/Aveeno radiant is great) and be certain to always wear an SPF of at least 30. Many BB creams provide excellent SPF coverage. Lastly..I recommend slowly introducing your skin to the product..applying but a pea size amount every other day. You will get a feel for how your skin adapts and that should reduce any excessive drying or redness. Most importantly...interact with your doctor and alert their staff to any reactions or looming questions and concerns. Everyone's skin is different so what works for one may not be the best option for another. Good luck. :)

Whatever you do, do NOT give up on this product. If your face feels dry or irritated, you are using too much too quickly. Studies have shown that long term use of tretinoin significantly reduces wrinkles. When you do decide to fill the prescription, there is a fantastic coupon available from the manufacturers website. I am not sure about the rules here so just google it and you will find it. I don't have insurance and only pay $25 out of pocket for this $400 tube of gold.
I have used many many many strengths of retin-a, the micro, the cream, and the gel. And let me tell you, Atralin gel is THE best. I have even gotten my 69 year old mother to start using it for wrinkles and a few overactive oil glands. I have seen nothing but wonderful results with this. I would be sure to apply this at bedtime every 2 days at first. Then gradually work your way up to every other night then every night. And with any skincare regimen, please wear sun screen no matter what ethnicity or skin type you have.
I struggled with severe cystic acne since I was 13. This is the only product that works. Your acne may worsen the first 2 weeks but please please give this a chance. I highly recommend using this with Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash redness soothing cream cleanser. It is very gentle.
Since I have more fair skin, I only apply the Atralin every other night in the summer. I also use cetaphil face moisturizer because it has spf 15, and use proactiv for my toner. GOOD LUCK!

It works really good but you have to make sure not to over use it or you will burn your skin (from experience)

Many of us uses Retin-A cream or gel. It works great and much cheaper than others.
If you're curious this is reliable site where I buy the Tretinoin (Retin-A) and they sent it to me without a prescription:
