Actually you should try it in your jawline. It should match your chest. Usually it's hard to spot the right shade so mixing 2 foundations one shade darker and one lighter... this is what works for me :)

At mac's website they have a test on how to chopse your foundation color or you could ask a makeup artist instead.

It might be your lighting at Home that's why it look differen but when you buy remember you probably got darker.
