The most effective ingredient to look out for is hydroquinone which actually fades hyperpigmentation. However, ALWAYS remember to wear a sunscreen as, surprisingly, it makes your skin photosensitive when using it. Some good ones are Meladerm, and Dr. Brandt Skincare Lightening Gel. Good luck!
