I'm a liquid pen (maybelline precise pen) kinda girl just cause its faster for me. Gel & a angled brush is the easiest and most precise I use maybelline eye studio gel liner and an essence angled brush from ulta. If you want really dark I would go with a liquid though. Oh and I use pencil only for the waterline cause it doesn't leak into your eye.

You could try wet and wild liquid liner just to start out with just in case you don't like it, their pretty cheap. I use this over my gel sometimes when I want a darker look.

I love the wet n wilds liquid eyeliner (it doesn't flake or anything, but don't get it wet unless youi have the waterproof one :)
For a pencil or retractable liner maybelline line Stiletto is amazing
And for gel or cream, essence all the way. I go to the pool with that stuff and it doesn't budge. Not to mention its super pigmented and you get a LOT of product for only three dollars! If I had to rate any that would be a 11/10 and the other two would be 10/10. Oh! And maybellines studio gel liner is fabulous as well, I used that everyday until I bought the essence one. The only difference is that essences seems to be more of a cream texture and is much darker that the already dark maybellines :) depends on how black or brown you like your liner.
