NEED advice on dying hair red!

I want to dye my hair red and my hair is dyed black. would using lo'real excellence hicolor in red work on my hair?
if not ,what's another way of getting red hair.
Also I don't want a really bright bright red or a dark red,something in between.

I've dyed my hair with many dyes. this one does work. only thing is my ends didn't really hold the color. but it didn't look weird. I recently started using a Hispanic shampoo called Manzanilla Grisi, its a lightening shampoo. I definitely recommend it.
