Help! need tips with dying my hair at home.

I have a question in my mind the answer sounds very obvious but I don't want to make any mistakes.
I've dyed my hair before at salons, but now I want to dye it at home. The thing is I havent retouched it since april so my roots are very long, and I want to dye my hair to another color from the one I had before.
So my question is, I just need to put peroxyde at my roots and then apply the dye in all of my hair? to get the same color everywhere...

You need to buy creme peroxide and your hair dye, then you need to mix the both together in a bowl, then evenly spread it across your roots, I dye my hair from home and this is what I do, works fine for me:)
