I want to dye my hair lavender (as you guys suggested) but I don't want to go all out yet. so should I try highlights or under half of my hair first?

The problem with that is I am a natural blonde but I've dyed it darker for a while so when I died it back to blonde, it ombred my hair so its darker on the ends & I hate it.
