Use a cream/beige eyeliner instead. It is a lot less harsh than a stark white but gives the same brightening effect to the eye.

Try the Scandaleyes Waterproof eyeliner by Rimmel London in the color Nude. It does the same eye opening affect as a white eyeliner, it just isn't harsh.
