Should I get layers? ( for curly/ wavy hair)

So I'm trying to grow my hair longer but for right now I was wondering if it would look good to get layers. I don't use heat on my hair, I just let it go natural like in the picture.

Honestly, I thought layers would be good while I was growing out my hair (since my hair is extremely thick) but all they did was frustrate me. When ever you do a braid the ends poke out and it took me twice as long to style:/ I love how your hair is now though!
