To bleach, or not to bleach?

That hair looks great on you, I say you should continue doing it that way. If you do decide to bleach the roots, try following these steps. If you can, get a friend or parent to help.
1: Brush your hair and clip away all but the underneath of your hair.
2: Grab some tin foil and cover all of the hair around where you're bleaching, this prevents getting bleach on the parts you don't want it on. Take your time on this and make sure it's on there good.
3: Apply petroleum jelly (vaseline) on your skin.
4: Mix your bleach now and make sure to put on gloves, if you don't use them you'll get gross looking chemical burns on your hands.
5: Apply the bleach in whatever manner you usually do, whether it be gooping in on with your hands or carefully putting it in with a dying brush. I honestly prefer gooping it on, and it's much quicker.
6: Wait for it to develop.
7: Grab a hand towel, paper towel, or anything of that sort and wet it, then carefully get the majority of the bleach out. It's better to remove it like so because there is no way for the bleach to get on the rest of your hair.
8: Remove the tin foil and rinse your hair as you normally would when removing bleach.

And you're done! I suggest treating your hair to a moisturizing mask after to get your hair back to normal quality. A good diy one is using an egg yolk and a good conditioner. Hope you enjoy your hair! :)

Lizzy, that is pretty much my normal routine when I dye/bleach my hair! Would it be a good idea to bleach all of the underneath hair (including whats currently purple) or just go for the roots that aren't lightened? I'm afraid that bleaching over my purple will absolutely fry it, since it has been bleached there before.

I agree with Lizzy N. Although I will add, use conditioner or lotion instead of Vaseline and use it also on the un-bleached part above it as a barrier and to help hold the foil. Other than that, you could use the purple all over and have an ombre underneath like I do! lol.

I think it's the actual dye you used. I don't like using fashion color from Sally's. It doesn't stay for me most of the time. If you really want lasting color I suggest Pravana over everything else. My back up for Pravana is Punky Colour.

If there's still a fair amount of purple dye in your hair, I strongly suggest using a dye remover (Ulta and Sally's sell them) before bleaching. I tried going from red (over bleached hair) to blonde and it was a painful process without removing the dye first and just bleaching. If you hair feels healthy enough to be bleached again, go for it. Deep conditioning your hair with a protein- or keratin-based mask for a few days before and after bleaching will also help your hair get stronger. That said, your hair looks gorgeous as it is!
