These ladies gave you great examples and always think dark fades into light,The first pic Aleighnna posted would be called the Gradient Effect shadow style with a mix of The sharp Angle style which is further out,I think if your starting off I would do the basics of original smokey eye which Lynzie posted and the second pic Aleighnna posted the edges are more in.then in time move up to other styles :)

Here's my purple smokey one :) what I do is to first put a cream base on my lid, usually black or some other dark shade, I put it up to my crease then blend a bit higher. then I add an eyeshadow on top and blend more for smooth lines :)
