It depends what you want in your mascara. Length, volume, separation?
I find that plastic and rubber wants grab onto lashes better, as well as wands that are slightly curved like a spoon help lift up and grab onto lashes which is why more prefer plastic and rubber wands such as covergirl clump crusher or maybelline the rocket and one by one. Drier formulas tend to build on each other better and create the most dramatic buildable looks such as loreal telescopic or covergirl clump crusher. Wetter formulas need more time in between coats and looks more natural. For example, maybelline great lash mascaras are more on the wetter formulation so it doesn't hold curls too well but are great for natural looks.
