Don't listen to them,they clearly don't know why you turned him down.It doesn't make you a bad person.
Why would people think its wrong for you to go?You have your own choices.Do you anyone to talk with though?You could go alone if you have some people to talk to.(I would consider eating sorta fun...but that's just me...)
But it's your choice,you never know what's going to happen and if you are comfortable going.
