I've always been the type of girl to just use concealer on my face, never used primer or tried contouring. Is there a big difference?

Using a primer makesa big difference it minimizes the look of your pores and your foundation goes on smooth.

I know I've heard that a lot! Lol. But I've seen that the products look like a lot more thick then foundation. Or am I wrong?

Kassandra, for contouring, you can use a concealer 1 or 2 times darker than your skin tone.

You can use a bronzer to contour with just make sure it's matte. The best powder to contour with is a cool toned matte. You can also use a concealer like Lexi said. Smashbox, bh cosmetics, and coastal scents make contour palettes.

Sculpting kits are THE best for this. The one by Sleek is amazing. Lots of brands have sculpting kits, you can ask a sales associate to demo them to you.

For contouring I use power or cream blush an bronzers; I recommend nars blush and bronzer duo, elf cosmetics cream or power blush and bronz duo, any nyx blushes and bronzers, or any milani or L'Oreal. For a highlighter urban decay naked just came out with one just look at ulta, L'Oreal lumi primer (yes primer but it is super sparkly so I only use it to highlight), hard candy doll face, or any nars or benefit whatts up ( I like liquid highlighter vs powder but urban decays is good and they also have a naked 'flushed palette' that has blush, bronz, and highlighter. I personally don't like using darker foundations to contour because I can build how dark I want my contour with powders and creams. Any primer you get will help smooth the skin and makeup last longer. Moisturize, primer, get a good base with a foundation or if your skin is clear just concealer, and then contour. Now as far as how to contour, look on youtube, or go to maskaras (spelled that way) beauty blog, its the same girl as the girl that lynzie posted.
