I have black hair. I have dyed my hair in the past... And always end up going back to black cause I'm never happy with the turn out color. I REALLY want to change my hair and go with a light brown hair with maybe some caramel colored highlights. I need advice on what to buy since I don't want no box dye. I prefer using hair dye from beauty stores! Help :(

You have to bleach your hair... For black I guess a 30/40 developer. Try a bleach that's safe on scalp- they're usually less harsh.
And definitely pick up a blue shampoo and conditioner. Some deep conditioning treatment.
Bleaching will leave your hair orange- you'll want to go over that with the brown but I'd wait a couple of days.

In stead of using straight lighter all over your hair which would leave you with a lot if damage you should instead do a soap cap which is mixing lighter and developer in with shampoo to make it more gentle.

Don't use a 40 vol bleach, it'll just fry your hair. Try thirty the first time you bleach and if you need to lighten again afterwards, I usually lean towards shwartzopft (spelt wrong lol) L++ lightening Box dyes as they're a lot less harsh than bleach but still do the same thing. Wait between bleaches and you'll be fine going caramel brown.

I tried 2 different box dyes and they did nothing to my hair at all- and I was only going from dark brown to platinum.
I used 40 for half the time then did an Olive oil mask and my hair is fine.

Every bodies hair is different, I've tried 40 vol. a few times and have had only bad experiences with breakage. Etc. The second time going blonde I found better products for what I wanted to achieve and that's just what I used and found worked.

Also, the box blonde dyes I used are a form of bleach, not just a blonde dye but they're less harsh than bleach is.

First off you'll have to bleach your hair, I like the quick blue bleach at sallys and use a 20 or 30 volume developer and let it process until your hair is orangey then wash and dry then color over with an ash based light brown to cancel out the Orange. and deep condition a lot! I recommend getting your base color right first then go ahead and add highlights.

Go to a salon. I know it's pricy but coming from some one who has personally fried the shit out of their hair with bleach it is most deffinetly worth it to have a professional handle bleach.
