My hair is black and I want to dye it red but I don't want to bleach my hair but I don't want to spend $40 for a bottle of hair dye just to do so. Is there any other things I can do to dye it that color without using bleach and spending a lot of money? HELP!

Loreal hi color is a good alternative to not pre-bleaching your hair prior to color application. It's purposely made for dark hair. A box of that stuff is like $6 roughly, and comes out very vibrantly. You can get it at Sally's.

Is your hair naturally black? If it is then you have a good chance it'll turn out red without bleaching. If not then there's really no way to get it red without bleaching your hair.

If I do bleach it, is there products I can buy to help prevent damage from it?

If you're planning on bleaching your hair by yourself then it'll get really tricky. There's really no way of preventing the damage. Your hair is going to get damaged at one extent. If you really don't want your hair to get to damaged then you should really get it professionally done.

I used the loreal stuff. The box said it also bleached your hair. It didn't damage my hair at all! And it came with a special shampoo!

Go to a hair salon. I recently went from black hair (dyed multiple times) to auburn. Bleaching it yourself will definitely ruin your hair unless you do it gradually over months. At the salon they'll do colour correction and it doesn't damage your hair at all imo.

I suggest avoiding bleach if you can. I bleached mine in high school & the problem is that it completely strips all the pigment from hair, & hello damage. There are many 1-step color kits that blend with your natural color, even if you lighten it. Ammonia does way more damage to your hair (& health) than 10-40 volume peroxide. If you do buy a box, first do a test on an inconspicuous strand to make sure it's what you want.
