Hello Beautylistas,I have to ask this question What do you prefer when it comes to makeup? Is it Skill? or is it simplicity? I ask this because I've notice so many great makeup looks getting over looked and then I notice the most simple yet not quite well application of a look on the picture forum and it gets nearly 300 likes, why is that? I've notice this a lot on here on the Picture forum as well as on the talk forum and I'm trying to understand it. Is it just easier to follow the look so it can be achieved at home? I'm curious because it helps me understand what really is needed here on BL or what everyone is more comfortable with.I'm not saying people need to be perfect or do makeup well at all I'm talking about just in art aspect of it,if I draw a foot on my face with glitter would that get noticed versus a photo shoot picture lol because so far in all the pictures I've seen some absolutely great makeup but yet they really don't get recognition, but yet I see a picture with lines scribbled down the face and that gets off the Hook praise. Is it the Simplicity? lets chat beauties :D what works for you.

I like the skill better. I have been reading so many of these forums as well as trying to learn more. A big reason for that is because I am absolutely blown away by some of the skill out there.

That's a good question alma. I'm interested n the responses so I want to follow this thread.

I can tell you I joined bl n search of detail, perfection, inspiration, and motivation to push the envelope. I'm not one for natural, simple, or looks that take little effort or skill. there's nothin wrong with those things but that's just my outlook.

I definitely see what you're saying but not everybody on here are good at makeup. For instance I got the app so I could learn how to make my face look presentable lol. Also I kind of live in a smaller town so although I absolutely LOVE the fancier looks that acquire more skill but if I ever went outside with that look on people would absolutely freak out. Even though I know it doesn't matter what they think but what I think I still don't want to stand out THAT much. So even though I love looking at those pictures they aren't very doable for me and my life... :)

Ohmygosh Jacqueline I LOVE your comment and I agree. I also would love to see the glitter foot and matching stiletto heel as well. I promise to like it a million times. :D.

I wonder why it should effect the beauty of the picture tho, if wearable or not if its beautiful why not like it.?

Wow. I was wondering the same thing. I think a factor of things come into play. For one: the age range on here. There are a lot of young teens and preteens on here. I'm not saying they can't appreciate the art (because I am 17 myself) but that they probably go off of things that are more mundane than artistic. There's also a misconception going around here that makeup has to be "natural." Art is often forgotten. Another thing is that the organization on the beautylish app is a bit out of whack. I feel like the photos are arranged in no specific order. It's a shame because I see a lot of photos from Pinterest that have a trillion likes at the top and then personal work second(which can have a lot or a little likes.) People probably will get tired off scrolling so thats why some other pictures don't get much shine...I'm not sure if I answered the question lol.

I think it does have to do with age and the fact that most people shove it down your throat that natural is better...I'm sorry that is just the way I feel somebody has more bold of brows some of the preteen and younger girl will tell them they need to have more natural brows. Bold eye makeup and then they say neutrals are better or that's not cute. Sorry I kind of just went of on a little rant it's just the way I have been feeling lately. If I offended anybody I'm sorry I did not mean to at all.

I agree with Symone B. I think the very young girls get excited about a pale pink lip and they all comment. I don't think they understand the nuances of a really good makeup job, so they ignore it.

I think that maybe we are trying to I courage the not so skillful so they stay motivated and get better as makeup artists if that's what they deaire.

I definitely agree with you Alma and Symone. I've learned so much from this app and it has inspired me to try new things but it's so frustrating to see pics or posts of things that doesn't really show much effort. I love scrolling through the pics and finding such artistic and creative works of art but get frustrated when the most ordinary things have 300 likes. all I can say is "what the..." and shake my head. I've noticed that a lot ppl who used to post on here aren't quite as active anymore and the topics of the posts have changed dramatically. but to answer your question, I definitely prefer skill! just like your profile pic...I love it! :)

I honestly think that ppl are afraid to give an honest true critique or don't really know what true skill is. They feel more comfortable saying they like something just for the simple fact that everyone else is. I've seen pics with a heavy eyeshadow application and to it will look sloppy and a bit trashy but ppl will say how great it looks. Its frustrating but hey what can you do

I agree with that too Patricia. some girls claim that they want an honest opinion but when they receive one they end up with an attitude. sometimes it's a waste of time to comment because you don't know what kind of response you will get in return.

This is a great thread and I wish there was more of this rather than the typical "how do I look" topics. But when topics like these arise usually its the same handful of ppl giving input. I don't know if ppl feel intimdated or they just don't care. Or is this considered "too serious " of a topic for some ppl to handle lol.

My opinion is people just like what they like unless you are a makeup artist or really interested in makeup application how well the eyeshadow is blended is not noticable to someone who does not really no it's suppose to be, people click like on what their eye is drawn too could be a bright color or even just how the person in the pic looks, who knows I guess the majority will always rule even on likes lol

I totally agree with the point Simone made about the age range, I like the art of make up, anybody can put a lipstick on no magic there, what make me check the app everyday is the hope in seeing something extraordinary, so Alma keep giving us your beautiful art, we understand it n appreciate it, and for them who don't let them keep liking lipsticks n bad applications!

Hey girls! what an interest thread! I agree with all of you I think nowadays natural makeup is better considered but when you create a good colorful makeup or a shocking lipstick they love it so who can understand people?lol.
