Maybe your natural hair has too much red pigments? Add maybe a green mix tone or smth, not sure about it but:-)

Instead of ion try clairol 1AA (its black with a double ash base) with 10 volume developer, its at sallys also and one of my friends swears by it! also aveda makes a shampoo and conditioner called black malva and it helps to minimize red tones on black hair, I used it when I had black hair and it is amazing! (:

Well with demi colors, it will fade quicker and won't be a true black!
