I tried doing a traditional smokey eye. I didn't take it too high because I didn't want it to be too dramatic. How do you think I did with my general technique?

I adore smokey eyes!! I love to go just a bit darker in the crease though.

I just tried to do a traditional smokey eye where the darkest color is supposed to be at the lash line and the get lighter as it goes up.

Brielle I think it looks good. I'm no Jacqueline but I know she will definitely give you some great tips. I think your "smoke" should blend more with your lower lid but it looks good regardless!
Rachel..I don't believe yours is considered smokey but it's pretty!

For a first try it's good- I think you should blend your transition color more towards the inner corner and a little bit further out in the outer corner.

Don't be afraid to go about your crease, neutrals are great for a daytime smokey and won't look too harsh since it's grown.

Practice blending, it's my number one tip for eye makeup.

I tried using a dark green eyeliner from mac, but I think I smudged it out too much.

Try a dark brown liner- but one that's very dark if you don't want the harshness of black

One tip I can add is when I taught myself smokey eye. I'd add the eye liner. then I used a skinny lip brush (the ELF $1 dollar or something that size) and wet it and use a dark color eye shadow to smudge the line a bit.. maybe you can try something like that.
but lately I've been loving the smudge factor of the too faced eye liners.. yum-my!

I'd take the color that you have in the crease and actually put it on the lid. Although what you did here is really nice, it's not traditionally right.

Basic smokey eye:

- Dark color all over lid
- Medium shade in the crease
- light shade above crease
- and lots of blending

There are lots of other things that go into the smokey, but that's just a general idea of a smokey eye. You want a smokey eye to start from dark on the entire lid and have it fade past the crease.
