Yesterday I did a matte smokey eye using the new MUA matte palette and it just looked like I has been punched in the face. Does anyone have any tips or recommendations for using matte eyeshadows, sorry I have no pics.

I'm assuming you mean the blending got all muddy and whatnot? I'd try using a base of some sort, like a cream shadow, this way the eyeshadow has something to stick to, and in addition maybe adding a basic skin-toned shadow all over the lid first to make blending a bit easier. I don't know what your "technique" entails, but maybe place the colors on using a smaller brush to be more precise, and then blending it out afterwards.
Those are all the tips I can think of haha, hopefully one of them helps ya out.
