I work at sephora. Though I bought it before I got my job when I started I brought mine in and took at least 20 min comparing the two. I saw not one diffrence, even tested to shades out so if it is a fake (which I doubt) its a damn good one and I'm happy with it(: but I totally understand the internet scam thing you are talking about.
