Should I go get my cosmetology license or esthetician? I don't wanna do hair or anything of that matter. I wanna better and do things that deal with make up and one day become a make up artist but do you guys think it's worth getting a cosmetology license?

Well from my understanding, many cosmetology programs are about 90% hair and have just a couple weeks of makeup. So if you don't want to do hair I would avoid that. Estheticians are more about skin. It can help if you have that because people know you know about skin. But I don't think they actually go over much makeup either. It's kind of a tricky situation. I think having some education under your belt is good and will help you get a job but at the same time you can learn all of it on your own and be just as good. I knew a good chunk of the stuff they taught in the beauty makeup portion of my classes, but I went to a program for special effects makeup. I kind of want to go back and get the esthetician's license because I feel it would open up some more doors. I'm on the fence about it, while I love skincare and wouldn't mind doing facials and whatnot, I don't want to get pigeonholed into just doing that. My suggestion is to search all over and figure out which program you think will offer you the most skills that you can use to open doors for yourself career-wise. I didn't realize how lacking parts of my education was until I was out of school in the real world. And realizing you weren't given everything you need and don't have money for more education is not a fun situation. So if you're going to do it I would try very hard to get it all in one program so you don't have to go back. Or just try on your own and save yourself the student loan debt. That is a huge, huge problem in the US right now. If you can make a living without having spent thousands and thousands of dollars on a degree then I say go for it lol. Sorry for rambling. I hope this is helpful/makes sense ha.

I know there are some courses that are specifically just for makeup and they're only for a few months. try to google some in your area.
