When you go to bed with unwashed hair, is it healthier to have your hair up (ponytail or bun?) or just leave it down?

I was told that if you go to sleep with your hair up it can damage it. so I always wear mine down, but away from my face.

I'm a wild sleeper so I wear my hair up. but if you have a silk pillow case, it won't damage your hair as much as a cotton pillow case.

I just put my hair in a loose low pony tail when I go to sleep or I do a side braid

Ah, I wonder how you ladies can keep your hair tied in braids, ponytails or buns while sleeping! My head starts to hurt if I do that, so I just tuck my long hair behind the ears and let it wafting on my bed, I can't use a pillow at all, and my hair is in pretty good condition when I wake up. :)

I have so much hair and it would get everywhere if I left it down and it would feel like I was suffocating. I always keep it in a ponytail. Also if I leave it down my hair gets tangled and then I have to brush it (big no with wavy hair, just gets poofy)

It's better to have your hair down or in a loose plat.
I always wear it in a bun tho, I can't stand my hair down when I sleep.

I always sleep with a braid because my hair gets huge knots if I let it down. And also I like my wavy hair in the morning :)

I wear mine up if I'm washing it the next morning, otherwise down ☺

Down. Sleeping with your hair up causes breakage.

I agree with Samantha S. it happens to me to even though I have super short hair.

I sleep with a braid to prevent split ends and it helps my hair grow(:

I sleep with my hair down. Even if I pull it up, it will be down in a few hours. I'm apparently a very wild sleeper lol.

I always wear my hair up in a ponytail or bun because the oils and dirt in your hair can be bad for your face when you sleep, or that's what I heard.
