Try searching online for more details! But just keep in mind that the first time you try to go blonde it won't be blonde immediately it will take several tries to get to what you want :)

I have dark dark dark brown hair (it's almost black) and I bought the lightest blonde box dye I could find. It turned my hair light brown, but it probably isn't good for your hair.

I actually went through that situation many times! Going from black to blonde is a process. I found that the right way to do it, is to buy Color Remover. It much like a regular box dye, except it strips the black from your hair. You can find this anywhere. Usually it leaves your hair a light brown/dark blonde. After this, you gradually dye your hair lighter with regular blonde dyes. Depending on how blonde you want your hair will determine how many times you should dye your hair. And to keep your hair in a healthy state, it is recommended that you dye your hair every two weeks, until you achieve the color you want. Dying your hair repeatedly is very bad for your hair.
You should stay away from bleach!! Unless you get it professionally done, it never does any justice to your hair! Bleaching, will only turn your hair a very orange, brassy color, while also leaving your hair EXTREMELY dry and brittle.
If your hair does happen to turn orange, you should use Toner. My favorite brand is Wella, from Sallys Beauty. It's about 5 dollars. Get a toner with a Blue base, I'm sure a Sally's worker will help you choose one. And once you apply, the blue base will cross cancel any orange in your hair, and gradually lighten it. (But you shouldn't expect a dramatic change, like the name, it only tones your hair). Its also very healthy for your hair!
Good luck! :)
