I know I have short hair too and it is very annoying because you can't do anything with is but straighten it!!

You can actually do a lot with shoulder length hair. You said you have thin hair so why don't you try volumizing products or curling a bit? I know Redken has a product called quick tease and it provides awesome results for thin hair. Honestly shoulder length is the easiest to work with for me at least. You can braid it, curl it, and with enough teasing you can make it into a pretty rad mo-hawk type thing.
