Is your hair ombré? If not, I'd say you can pull off dying your hair the same color as your ponytail (it looks a bit lighter than your roots in this pic).

If you go lighter don't do it yourself it always goes orange, it's happened to me a few times!

I say have heavy foils concentrated around the face done. It brightens up face and minimal keep up required, so when it grows out still looks good for awhile.
