I'm going to get my ears pierced again, this time I have choosed the top rim piercing.
My friends said that top rim is way more painful and piercing guns can shatter the cartilage...is that true?

Not true. However guns aren't the best option anyway. They don't use needles, they use normal earrings and a ton of pressure to push them through (which is why it hurts). Go to a professional that uses a needle. Scarier, but certainly safer. There's also no way to effectively clean a piercing gun, so you can't be entirely sure that it's sterile for use on your ear.

I have two piercings on the top rim of my ear and got them done by a gun, it didn't hurt and took like 2 mins and everything was done, I've had them for ages and not a problem :)

They're sterilized, yes. Some are even disposable and aren't reloadable so they can't be used again. But as was mentioned before, they don't use needles and that does put a lot of pressure on the area. I had my cartilage done with a gun and then went to a professional who used a needle and the difference was day and night. The ones done with a gun never quite healed properly, were infected frequently and were sore and uncomfortable for seemingly no reason at all even after they were healed. I eventually took them both out. Now the only piercings I have left are the traguses I got done with the needle. They healed perfectly and are never uncomfortable. I honestly forget I even have them, there's never been any discomfort aside from the first few days I had them. I would recommend getting any and all piercings done with a needle and nothing else. It just makes sense to me to put a sharp needle through versus a blunt post just shoved through with a lot of pressure...that can't be good for anything.
