Start off with a light color on the whole lid. If you have a white or shadow primer work. Then do a light color in the inside area of your life going about half way.. Then take a darker or different color and go the rest of the way to your outer lid.. I suck at trying to explain lol.. Hope it helped a little

Like Michelle said, use a base or primer before shadow. I pat my color on rather then spreading with a flat brush. I start with a light color on the eyelid (anything cream or white, etc), then I add my next darker color on my crease with a crease brush. I go back in with a blending brush to soften and remove any harsh lines. I also add a more darker color just at the outer corner of my eye and blend inward. Then I add a highlighter under my brow and blend. Hope this was helpful :)

One thing I do to make my shadow really stand out is to wet the brush. This also gives you a lot of control instead of the shadow flying everywhere and giving you a unishadow bruise color.
